TAMPA — The Class 8A, District 7 game between Bloomingdale and Plant was postponed in the sixth inning Tuesday after a small fire ignited at the base of one of the outfield lights.
Officials said the remainder of the game will be played Wednesday starting at 4 p.m.
Two of the outfield lights suddenly went out in the top of the sixth then a small fire started underneath one of them. Fire trucks came to the baseball field and quickly extinguished the flames.
The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known.
Plant had a 5-3 lead when the game was postponed in the top of the sixth. Kyle Tucker led the way for the Panthers, hitting a two-run homer in the third inning.
The game was a pivotal one in 8A-7, matching the Panthers (8-4, 2-2) against Bloomingdale (10-4, 1-3), which is coming off its championship run in the Saladino Tournament.
