Softball super seven
1. River Ridge (16-1): Even when the Royal Knights are off — like allowing four early runs against Wesley Chapel — they’re on. Melissa Moore led River Ridge to a 15-5, five-inning victory over the Wildcats.
2. Hernando (10-2): Few teams are hotter than the Leopards, who are undefeated since a 2-2 start and have allowed more than three runs in only one game in the past month.
3. Mitchell (11-3): An 11-run win over Pasco was a nice rebound from an 11-run loss to River Ridge. The Mustangs’ only county losses have come to the powerhouse Knights.
4. Zephyrhills (11-3): The Bulldogs haven’t lost in a month and avenged their last defeat with Tuesday’s 7-4 win over Gulf. Three players have bashed at least two home runs.
5. Gulf (13-2): Britney Pressler and the Bucs don’t have time to dwell on their first district loss of the year. A big Class 5A, District 8 game against Pasco looms Thursday.
6. Springstead (10-3): Despite some new faces, the Eagles still have high expectations and find themselves in familiar territory: first place in Class 6A, District 6.
7. Central (10-4): The Bears have fared well against teams outside of Hernando County. They can get back on track against rivals with a win over Springstead on Thursday.
