Baseball super seven
1. Land O’Lakes (11-0): The Gators finally found one opponent they couldn’t beat. The rain, which washed out Tuesday’s showdown with Wesley Chapel.
2. Wiregrass Ranch (9-3): Standout pitcher Zach Drury took a rare loss in this week’s 4-3 Gaither victory. A tough Class 7A, District 9 field has been hard for the Bulls to navigate.
3. Springstead (9-2): The Eagles have rattled off three wins in a row since a 5-4 loss to Bishop McLaughlin. Two fun games are ahead next month, with showdowns against Land O’Lakes and a rematch against Hernando.
4. Hernando (9-2): As usual, the Leopards are getting hot late in the season. Brandon Lawson and Co. are riding a five-game win streak and can get a share of first place in the district with a win tonight over Eustis.
5. Mitchell (11-3): The Mustangs sandwiched two nice wins — a victory over Wesley Chapel and an 11-run blowout over Tarpon Springs — around a 10-run loss to the Gators.
6. Pasco (7-4): The Pirates are Pasco County’s hottest team outside of Land O’Lakes. They’ve knocked off Wesley Chapel and Ridgewood while falling to the Gators by only one run.
7. Wesley Chapel (9-4): The Wildcats are 4-1 when ace Chase Ingram pitches — and 5-3 when he doesn’t. They’ll remain contenders in an unpredictable Class 5A, District 8.
