Baseball super seven
Records through Wednesday
1. Land O’Lakes (15-2): The Gators are no longer perfect, but maybe those two losses in Ocala will take some pressure off. Land O’Lakes has two big non-district games next week, against Wiregrass Ranch and Springstead.
2. Mitchell (16-3): The Mustangs’ six-game win streak includes the championship from last week’s Northeast tournament and convincing district wins over Tarpon Springs and Sunlake.
3. Springstead (11-4): The Eagles boast one of the area’s top pitching staffs. Brandon Brosher, Ryan Nicoll, Ryan Keith and Kody Stein all have ERAs of 1.35 or better.
4. Hernando (11-4): Florida commit Christian Arroyo still isn’t flashy, but he’s among the North Suncoast’s leaders with three home runs and a .526 average while committing only three errors in the infield.
5. Wiregrass Ranch (11-6): The Bulls had dropped four of their past five games before rebounding nicely thanks to Zach and Austin Drury, who led Wiregrass to a 4-3 win over Gaither on Tuesday.
6. Pasco (11-6): The Pirates haven’t lost a district game since their opener against Wesley Chapel. Blaine Duncan has become one of the county’s top pitchers (5-0 record, 1.28 ERA, 71 strikeouts).
7. Wesley Chapel (13-5): Ace Chase Ingram continues to dominate. Fivay broke up his no-hitter with two outs in the seventh inning in Tuesday’s 8-0 win over the Falcons.
