Miserable weather and minimal practice time didn't prevent Jeremiah Green from propelling his lithe frame nearly an inch closer to immortality Friday.

On a damp day at the Florida Relays in Gainesville, the Hillsborough senior and University of Alabama signee (pictured) re-set the nation's top effort in the triple jump this year with an effort of 52 feet, 1.75 inches.

The jump — on Green's first attempt in the finals — was three-quarters of an inch farther than he soared three weeks ago at the USF/Steinbrenner Invitational. At the time, his 52-1 effort was the nation's best at the prep level.

"(Friday's jump) surprised us a lot due to the weather conditions," Terriers coach Joe Sipp said. "It was cold and drizzling. ... He had another good jump but his hand hit the dirt early, so they marked his hand."

Green's performance highlighted another solid day for bay area athletes at the 69th annual event, staged at the University of Florida's Percy Beard Track at Pressly Stadium.

Lakewood's Tim Holmes won the 110 hurdles in a personal-best 14.06 seconds. Better still, he beat reigning Class 2A state champ Walter Tucker (14.14). Alonso senior William Taylor-Haynes was third (14.26).

Holmes' teammate, Shaquill Griffin took second in the triple jump in a personal record 49-0.5. Griffin's twin, Shaquem Griffin, the defending 2A state triple jump champion, was third in the event in 47-3.

The Spartans' 4x200 relay team of Jahaven Haye, Lidell Golden Jr., Deandre Boykins and Marquez Valdes took second in 1:27.88.

In the boys 100, Gibbs' Trayvon Bromell was disqualified because of a false start. Orlando Jones' Levonte Whitfield won in 10.28, currently the top time in the nation this year.

Chamberlain senior Andrea Aaron, fourth in the discus on Thursday, was third in Friday's shot put (42-6). Springstead junior Bobby Harris placed second in the boys high jump (6-6).
