Wharton CB Vernon Hargreaves III, who could play in any prep all-star contest of his choosing, ultimately chose the one closest to his home -- and his fashion sense.
Hargreaves, the nation's No. 4 recruit according to ESPN, was formally presented his jersey for the Under Armour All-America game before his entire senior class inside Wharton's auditorium Wednesday morning.
"All I wear is Under Armour, and (the game) is close (to home)," Hargreaves said. "I want all my family and friends to be able to come and see me."
The game will be played Jan. 4 at 5 p.m. at Tropicana Field. Hargreaves, a University of Florida commitment, will be joined by several locals including Armwood's Alvin Bailey and Leon McQuay III, both of whom were presented their jerseys last week. It's uncertain whether the Hillsborough trio will compete on the same team; squads are not divided geographically.
In seven games this season, Hargreaves (5-foot-11, 180 pounds) has 62 tackles, three interceptions, two caused fumbles, four touchdowns and eight two-point conversions.
