Palm Harbor University’s Jared Prince won the school’s first state wrestling title in February by scoring a 3-1 win against three-time state champion James Flint of Brandon. Prince has not exactly rested on his recent laurels since.
Saturday in Indiana, Pa., Prince took third place at the 2013 Flonationals, a folkstyle wrestling event that featured more than 60 nationally-ranked wrestlers and a large array of other state champs from more than 35 states.
Prince, still wrestling at 120 pounds, went 6-1. His only loss was in the semis, 5-3 to Darian Cruz, a senior ranked No. 3 nationally from Pennsylvania. Prince’s tournament highlight was pinning Mason Pengilly, a junior ranked No. 9 nationally from California, in the first period of the third-place match.
Florida as a team finished eighth.
