Softball super seven
Records through Tuesday
1. River Ridge (23-1): The Royal Knights racked up two more convincing victories, against Gulf and Wiregrass Ranch, by a combined score of 14-2. Yawn. River Ridge’s dominance is becoming routine — and recognized with a No. 2 ranking in Class 6A.
2. Hernando (16-7): The Leopards have slipped with four losses in their past five games but remain a strong playoff contender with Courtney Riddle and a deep roster.
3. Pasco (15-7): A 9-4 win over Zephyrhills makes the Pirates perhaps the top contender in an unpredictable Class 5A, District 8.
4. Zephyrhills (16-5): The Bulldogs don’t have a superstar, but they have lots of depth. Six players have batted in at least 11 runs this spring.
5. Gulf (11-12): The Bucs’ forfeits dropped them to fourth in Class 5A, District 8 — and a likely showdown with Zephyrhills for a playoff berth.
6. Mitchell (16-5): Since a rough spring break tournament in Hernando County, the Mustangs are 3-0.
7. Central (15-6): The Bears are back among the North Suncoast’s top teams, thanks in part to power. Katie McCarthy’s six homers rank second in the area, and Central has 48 extra-base hits this season.
