Jesuit senior G J.J. Weir, a starter on the Tigers' Class 5A state championship team, will sign Wednesday with Division III Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn., the school announced.
Weir will become the third signee -- but far from the last -- from that championship squad. SG Jack Fleming signed last fall with Colgate, while C Travis Johnson signed a football scholarship in February with Cincinnati.
G Devin Harris, meantime, has Division I offers and could get more. Additionally, the Tampa Bay Times reported earlier today that junior low-post reserve Isaiah Omoregie has been offered by Drexel.
Weir (6-foot-1, 160 pounds) averaged 2.2 points, 2.4 steals and a team-high 5.3 assists for Jesuit (31-1), which captured its first state crown since 1984. In two state tournament games, he totaled nine assists and three steals.
Division III programs don't offer athletic scholarships, but Tigers coach Neal Goldman indicated Weir is expected to receive a significant deal of academic-related financial aid.
Other Tigers student-athletes expected to sign Wednesday are Benny Ely (Rollins, baseball), Cole Fox (Swarthmore, lacrosse), David Pagliarulo (St. Joseph's, tennis) and Lucas Trim (Villanova, golf).
