Run game helping revive Ridgewood offense

Ridgewood (1-7) has tinkered with its system under first-year coach Jay Fulmer, especially after scoring only 14 points through the first three games.

And late in the year, the Rams seem to have found a solution.

“We finally found what they can buy into,” Fulmer said.

And that, in part, is running.

The Falcons have one of Pasco County’s leading rushers, Elton Grigley (686 yards, four touchdowns) to go with senior Tyler Vito (477 yards, five touchdowns). They’ve pounded the ball successfully and racked up almost 600 yards of offense last week. The ground game has provided balance to an air attack led by QB Will Fulmer (789 yards, five touchdown passes) and TE Max Livingstone (217 receiving yards).

And the results are beginning to show.

After a slow start, Ridgewood picked up its first win last month with a 20-3 victory over Gulf. The Rams haven’t won since but have been close, falling to Wesley Chapel by five points and taking Zephyrhills to the wire before a last-second field goal handed Ridgewood a 37-35 loss.

The Rams failed to score more than 30 points in any game last year but have done so in back-to-back contests this fall.

“We’re getting better,” Fulmer said.

The Rams face Pasco this week before closing the season at Fivay.
