CLEARWATER — The race for the Class A, District 8 track title typically goes through Indian Rocks Christian and Calvary Christian. Last year the Golden Eagles and Warriors split the boys and girls titles, but this year it was all Golden Eagles. IRC won the boys title Friday with 192 points to Calvary Christian’s 134; the girls won 205-190 to edge the Warriors.

Calvary Christian freshman Hannah Brookover won the distance triple crown, taking the 800, 1,600 and 3,200. Her 800 time of 2:22.08 set a meet record and demolished the field by more than six seconds.

Brookover, a first-year state qualifier in cross county, also finished way ahead of the field in her other events. In the 1,600 she won by almost 25 seconds; in the 3,200 she won by nearly nine seconds.

Indian Rocks Christian junior Michael Cavonis set a school record in the boys 400 (50.93). He also finished second in the 200 (23.26).

Tampa Bay Christian sophomore Jamari Johnson won the discus (144 feet) and shot put (43-11). Johnson’s mark of 144 set a meet record but was still 6 feet off his personal record for the year.

Carrollwood Day sophomore Elias Earley ran a 22.97 in the 200 final to claim a district championship and set a personal record. Earley placed second in the 400 (52.02). Teammate and seventh-grader Kailiece Harris won the girls 400 in 59.27 and claimed the fourth qualifying spot in the 200 (26.50).

Seffner Christian junior Robbie Shell won the boys long jump (20-3), high jump (5-8) and placed third in the 200 (23.32) and 100 (11.11), qualifying for regionals in four events as the boys team totaled 92 points.

Tampa Prep senior and Bucknell commitment Carly Reiner battled through awful weather conditions and a quick turnaround to repeat as district champ in the long jump (17-2) and triple jump (34-7). She also grabbed the fourth qualifying spot in the 100. Tampa Prep’s girls were third overall with 66 points.
