Jesuit guard Devin Harris, arguably the most versatile player from the Tigers' Class 5A state championship team, confirmed Saturday he has committed to East Tennessee State.

Harris becomes the fourth member of the team -- so far -- who will compete athletically in college. The others: shooting guard Jack Fleming (Colgate), point guard J.J. Weir (Rhodes College) and center Travis Johnson (Cincinnati, for football).

Though ETSU was Harris' only substantial offer, he generated significant interest as the season progressed. Jesuit coach Neal Goldman said he ultimately declined visits and/or workouts from Georgetown, Wyoming and UCF because of his encouraging visit to ETSU, where he has a chance to contribute immediately to the Atlantic Sun Conference program.

"I fit in well with the team and the coaching staff is great!" Harris said via text message Saturday night. "I also fit well in their system and I love the city (Johnson City, Tenn.)."

A lean 6-foot-4 matchup nightmare on the perimeter, Harris averaged 15.5 points, six rebounds, 2.4 steals and 3.5 assists, earning Times first-team All-Hillsborough County honors.

He also was the team's best free-throw shooter (76 percent) among the starters, hitting 14 of 16 in a three-night stretch in wins against Berkeley Prep and Tampa Catholic.

He'll join a program with firm bay area roots. Buccaneers assistant Scott Wagers, who observed Harris at the 5A state tournament in Lakeland, is Robinson's former coach; and former Sickles star Rashawn Rembert just finished his sophomore season.
