Milestone of the night
Carrollwood Day’s baseball team (10-11) took a huge stride Tuesday night, stepping on Tampa Catholic’s senior night pageantry in the process. The Patriots’ 5-3 victory was the program’s first against the Crusaders, who surrendered two runs in the seventh including a bases-loaded RBI-grounder by junior Colin Campbell. Sophomore Bryce Benedict notched his first complete game of the season, delivering what first-year coach Nick Rodriguez deemed a 100-pitch gem.

Quotable
“We had a wonderful season … we just met our match at state. We had three No. 1 seeds in the open draws and that’s tough any time.” — Carrollwood Day girls tennis coach John Most, whose team’s season ended with a doubles and singles defeat Tuesday at the Class 2A tournament
“It shows a lot of character because we’re still building; that’s what we’re about. These guys have busted their tails for me. … They’ve bought in.” — Rodriguez on his team’s win at TC
