St. Petersburg kicker Sean Covington officially accepted his Under Armour All-America jersey on Thursday during a ceremony in the school's Archive Room. Covington, who averages 47 yards per punt and has kicked two field goals over 50 yards this season, is one of two kickers playing in the game at Tropicana Field on Friday, Jan. 4.

"You don't see a lot of players like Sean come through your school very often,'' Green Devils coach Joe Fabrizio said.

Covington has verbally committed to UCLA. He took an official visit two weeks ago and made his decision just a few days after returning from Los Angeles. Covington said Bruins coaches plan on having him punt and kick off as a freshman before moving to placekicker down the road. He also plans to play goalkeeper for St. Petersburg's soccer team, but he will not play soccer in college.

Covington said he has attended the Under Armour game for the past two years and made a vow that he would play in it his senior year.

"I told myself that I wanted to be on that field some day,'' he said. "It's awesome to actually have a chance to do it.''

And if the game comes down to a field goal, he welcomes the chance to kick a game winner.

"I wouldn't even think about it,'' he said. "I'd just go out there and kick it.''
