At Punta Gorda, Strawberry Crest’s girls 4x100 relay team and the East Bay boys 4x400 squad captured the county’s lone 3A-3 region track titles.
The Chargers foursome, led by seniors Brittany Barber and Yasmine Gardiner, placed third in the prelims (49.27 seconds) before recording a season-best time (48.58) in the finals. Gardiner was also runnerup in the 200; Barber was fourth in the 100.
Chargers freshman Terra Brooks earned a state meet spot with a third-place finish in the triple jump. Armwood junior KiKi Newsome was fourth in the shot put.
The Indians boys 4x400 team — Noah Williams, Ryan Rannie, Dequan Charles and David Wykes — also delivered a season-best effort (3:20.14) to edge Naples Barron Collier.
