Boca Ciega will hold a ceremony at 4 p.m. Friday to name the new softball and baseball fields on the school’s campus after longtime coach and teacher Gerry Ramsberger.
Ramsberger, 88, taught and coached football and baseball at both Northeast and Boca Ciega before becoming a political science professor at St. Petersburg Junior College (now St. Petersburg College). He was also a World War II veteran, played football at Notre Dame and ran the Tropicana Field press box for the first 10 years of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays' existence.
Ramsberger, is in failing health, may not be able to attend the ceremony.
