Tom LoSauro will not return as Bishop McLaughlin’s baseball coach, the school announced Wednesday afternoon.
LoSauro was a high-profile hire for the Hurricanes in 2011 after taking Fort Myers Bishop Verot Catholic to the Class 3A state title and a top-15 national ranking. In two seasons for the Hurricanes, he led the team to a 30-23 record. Bishop made the Class 3A playoffs in 2012 but finished 12-13 this spring.
LoSauro said the school has changed administrators since he arrived and that they wanted to go in a new direction. The staff informed LoSauro of its decision Wednesday afternoon.
“I certainly would have loved to finish what I started,” said LoSauro, who also served as the school’s athletic director. “It’s their option and their decision to do whatever it is they feel they need to do.”
Bishop is also looking for a new girls basketball coach after Joe Jasinski resigned to take a job in the school’s administration. In two years, he guided the Hurricanes to a 23-26 record, including the program’s first winning season in 2011-12.
The school plans to begin trying to fill both positions immediately.
