Eight Wiregrass Ranch athletes signed to play collegiately in a ceremony last week:
Football players Ryan Shea and John Coyne will remain teammates after signing with Valparaiso (Ind.). Shea, a 5-foot-11, 170-pound athlete, tallied 473 receiving yards and two touchdowns last fall. Coyne, a 6-foot-2, 260-pound senior, recorded 15 tackles and a fumble recovery while earning honorable mention all-North Suncoast honors.
Patrick St. Hill signed to run cross country at Saint Leo. He placed fifth in the conference meet last fall and 10th at districts. He added a third-place showing in the 3200 meters at the Class 3A, District 6 track meet this spring.
Teammate Thor Alastre will continue his cross country career at Iowa Central Community College. He placed second at districts in the 3200 (10:16.64) and was seventh in the Class 3A, District 6 cross country meet.
Chelsea and Marissa Ginn-Davis both signed to run cross country at PHCC. Chelsea finished in the top 20 at districts in cross country and track (3200), and Marissa qualified for the 3A, Region 2 track meet in the 300 hurdles.
Marcus Guzman will play baseball at St. Pete College. The outfielder batted .329 while stealing 21 bases to help the Bulls make their first playoff appearance and advance to the 7A region final.
Anne Cypriano is headed to Bridgewater College for soccer. She finished her senior season with eight goals and five assists for the 20-2 Bulls.
