Score: Carrollwood Day 41, Bishop McLaughlin 7

Spring game-breakers: CDS’ run game seems to have picked up where it left off in 2012, just sans Robert Davis. Rising junior Elias Earley popped a 33-yarder on the first play from scrimmage and finished with 160 yards on 12 carries — only two came in the second half. Earley also had runs of 30 and 45 yards, and ran patiently behind his big offensive linemen. …Rising junior Max Frankel was the thunder, rumbling for two scores, one a 15-yard scramble in which he switched field twice and broke several tackles on his way into the end zone. Frankel also had two tackles for loss, a sack and a pass defended. He also had a great pancake block on a Hurricane defensive lineman. …Rising Hurricane senior RJ Perciavalle was a bright spot for the Hurricanes. Perciavalle was 8 of 13 passing and carried the ball seven times for 86 yards and a score. The Hurricanes’ lone scoring drive came behind back-to-back quick-snap sneaks from Perciavalle that netted 22 then 2 yards for the touchdown.

Did you know? Saturday’s matchup was Bishop McLaughlin’s first-ever spring game. This fall will also be the Hurricanes’ first year in an district (3A-4).

Audible 1:“Get your butt up, your hands down and fly.” — Patriots offensive line coach Adam Finch, to Max Frankel as Frankel lined up for his second-ever snap at defensive tackle. Frankel broke through so fast that he tackled the quarterback before he could complete the handoff.

Audible 2:“We’ve got like a Mercury Morris, Jim Kiick, Larry Csonka backfield going with Elias (Earley), Max (Frankel) and Jake (McAllister) in there.” — Patriots coach Lane McLaughlin (no relation to Bishop McLaughlin)
