Two baseball recruiting updates from the North Suncoast:
Mitchell RHP Chris McCormick signed with PHCC last week. The 6-1, 175-pound senior posted a 2.23 ERA with 71 strikeouts on the mound and batted .307 with nine doubles to help the Mustangs reach the Class 6A region final. He starred in the district title game against Land O’Lakes, striking out seven batters in a complete-game win.
Pasco ace Blaine Duncan has orally committed to Barry University, Pirates coach Pat Fortunato said in a text message Tuesday evening.
Duncan, a 6-foot senior lefty, was one of the North Suncoast’s top pitchers. He ranked among Pasco County’s leaders with a 1.09 ERA and 100 strikeouts in 64.1 innings. He finished the spring 7-1 and had one of the best pitching performances of the season: a 15-strikeout one-hitter against Ridgewood.
Duncan earned third-team all-Sunshine Athletic Conference honors for the Pirates, who won the Class 5A, District 8 title.
