Pasco coach Tom McHugh became the Pirates’ all-time winningest coach with last week’s 45-0 win over Ridgewood.
McHugh has compiled a 59-11 record with two trips to the state semifinals in his six seasons as head coach. That’s one win more than Perry Brown, who finished 58-22 in seven seasons and took the Pirates to their only state title in 1992. Ricky Thomas ranks third in program history, with 45 wins from 1996-2002.
McHugh’s Pirates have already clinched a playoff spot in Class 5A, District 6 and can secure a sixth consecutive district championship with a win over Zephyrhills on Friday. Pasco has only lost once to the Bulldogs under McHugh – a 14-7 defeat in 2007 that remains the Pirates’ last loss to a county opponent.
Another North Suncoast coach, River Ridge girls soccer coach Skip Glover, passed a milestone Monday. He earned his 150th career victory with the Royal Knights’ 4-3 win over Ridgewood, the school announced Tuesday. Glover led River Ridge to its best season in program history last winter, including a trip to the region finals and an 18-5-1 record.
