Admiral Farragut running back Cortavious Givens was hoping to make enough of an impact this spring to convince colleges he was fully recovered from an ACL tear two years ago.
The speed and power were there in practices. But Givens was unsure how recruiters would react after the Blue Jackets’ offense struggled in a loss to Berkeley Prep.
Turns out, he showed enough.
On Wednesday, Givens said he picked up an offer from Florida Atlantic, his first from a state school.
“That offer got me real excited,” Givens said. “I think it will really get the process going.”
Givens' other offers are from Massachusetts and Virginia, both of which want him as a linebacker. FAU offered as a running back. Givens said he will attend a camp at the school between June 9-11. He also said he will attend a camp at Florida on June 8 for running backs/fullbacks.
“I know I’ll have a busy summer, and I’m trying to work as hard as I can to stay in the best shape as possible,” Givens said.
To build his endurance, Givens said he is doing beach workouts and going on 5-mile runs this summer.
“I feel like I’m close to getting a few more offers,” Givens said. “Purdue wants me as a running back and Marshall wants me as a linebacker. I’m just happy it’s all starting to pick up.”
