On Thursday, four bay area players were taken on Day 1 of the MLB first-year player draft.
In addition to Hernando SS Christian Arroyo’s historic first-round selection, Durant RHP Tyler Danish, Gaither SS Oscar Mercado and Wharton IF Tucker Neuhaus went in the second and sandwich rounds.
Joining them on Day 2:
OF James Ramsay, USF (7th, 197, Astros): The Brandon High alum led the Bulls in hitting this season, with a .337 average and 43 RBIs. He also had three home runs. Also led the Bulls in slugging (.449), hits (82) and total bases (109).
LHP Mike Adams, University of Tampa (7th, 203, Red Sox): Division II All-American and Nature Coast alum was unbeaten this year, with 77 stikeouts for the national champions. MLB.com says: "He has a loose, easy delivery, which helps him to throw all three pitches (fastball, curve, changeup) for strikes."
LHP Daniel Gibson, University of Florida (7th, 210, Diamondbacks): The Jesuit alum was 2-1 as a reliever for the Gators this season. MLB.com says: "Gibson throws four pitches, but relies on a fastball-slider combination when coming out of the bullpen. His fastball sits in the low-90s with good tailing movement." Also projects as a possible starter down the road.
We'll update this post as locals are drafted.
