Palm Harbor University running back/defensive back Demetri Royer has transferred to Clearwater Central Catholic.

Royer, a junior, said in a direct message on Twitter that he will work out with the Marauders for the first time today.

Last fall, Royer rushed for 280 yards and five touchdowns with the Hurricanes. He also recorded 24 tackles and had an interception on defense. Royer did not play with PHU in the spring because of his pending transfer.

This offseason the Hurricanes have been hit hard with backup quarterback Brevet Killett (Gibbs), linebacker/fullback Connor Dorris (CCC) and receiver Shane Dixon (IMG Academy) all leaving.

The mass exodus comes despite PHU making its first two playoff appearances the past two seasons and winning a playoff game for the first time in 2011 under coach Matt LePain.

LePain said he had no comment on Royer’s transfer.
