Pinellas Park’s Deterrica Simpkins, one of Pinellas County’s top girls sprinters, has transferred to Northside Christian.
Simpkins, a senior, said she made the move to join her brother, Demetrius Jackson, who is going to Northside as an incoming freshman.
“It was something that would work out well for our family,” Simpkins said. “It happened pretty quickly, and we made the decision at the end of May.”
This past season, Simpkins had a breakthrough performance, winning conference titles in the 100, 200 and 400 meter races. She also was a state qualifier in the 100 and 200.
“I’ve already been working out (at Northside),” Simpkins said. “I like the hands-on approach and the one-on-one training.”
Simpkins said her brother will play basketball instead of run track.
