Plant rising senior quarterback Colby Brown has landed his first scholarship offer, from Georgia State, according to Panthers coach Robert Weiner.

Brown, who only started two games at Plant last season, received the offer during a camp in Lagrange, Ga.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Brown enters the fall as the Panthers’ presumptive starter after spending much of the previous season on the sideline behind senior Aaron Banks.

Brown started two games when Banks went down with an injury, leading the Panthers to wins over Wharton and Brandon. He finished the season 32-of-59 for 470 yards with four touchdowns and an interception.

But Brown has plenty of game experience, starting every game as a sophomore at Orlando Olympia. He led the Titans to a 7-5 record and into the postseason, completing 52 percent of his passes for 1,634 yards and 11 touchdowns with 11 interceptions.

Weiner calls Brown “an athletic pocket quarterback, possesses an incredibly strong and accurate arm with tremendous leadership and work ethic.”

Georgia State, which launched its football program in 2010, will transition to the Sun Belt Conference in the Football Bowl Subdivision this fall after spending the previous three seasons in the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA).
