A pair of Seminole baseball players have decided to stay home and play for St. Petersburg College. First baseman Corey Baptist and catcher Michael Mann will play for the Titans, who are a two-year school athletically, instead of playing at Division I schools.
Baptist, the Times' Player of the Year, was orally committed to play at Mississippi. But after a summer trip to Oxford, Baptist said in a text "It wasn't the right fit,'' and decided to play at SPC. Mann, one of the top catchers in the area for the past two seasons, never attended summer classes at USF.
Because they are playing at a two-year school, both players can be drafted after their freshman years. Neither was selected in the 2013 draft.
