Tampa Bay Tech sprinter Deontae Williams, who earned Class 4A state medals in the 100 and 200 meters last spring in only his second year of track, has signed a partial scholarship with North Carolina Central.

Williams' mom, former King High 400-meter state medalist Tawanda Stukes, said her son signed last week.

Unmistakeable with his slender frame and high-top fade haircut, Williams (left) shined this past spring, finishing second to Hillsborough senior (and University of Alabama signee) in the 100 and 200 at the county championships. He won both events at the 4A, District 6 meet, then finished third in both at the Region 2 meet.

He capped his career on a wet track in gusty conditions at the state meet in Jacksonville, finishing seventh in the 100 and sixth in the 200 in timed finals.

The Titans leadoff hitter in baseball, Williams had his best year in 2012, hitting .500 with 15 stolen bases in 17 tries.
