Gibbs sprinter Trayvon Bromell, the Gatorade national track athlete of the year, lost in his bid to become the overall male winner during a ceremony Tuesday night in Los Angeles.
Andrew Wiggins, a basketball sensation who has committed to Kansas and is considered the favorite to be the top pick in the 2014 NBA draft, won the overall award for the second straight year.
Bromell was dominant in the 100 meters this season, winning district, conference, region and state titles. Last month, he became the first American high school sprinter to run the 100 meters in under 10 seconds, winning the event in 9.99 seconds at the Great Southwest Classic in New Mexico.
Bromell will run the 100 at the Pan Am Junior Games next month, his last before officially reporting to Baylor.
