Academy at the Lakes senior Mallory Etcheberry capped off her high school career with a 29th-place finish at the Class A girls golf state final at Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills.
The Akron commit settled down after Tuesday’s rough round to fire 6-over 78 Wednesday. Her two-day total 161 put her 15 strokes behind individual champion Simin Feng of Windermere Prep.
Fivay’s girls team shaved off 14 strokes from Tuesday to complete the two-day event 16th with 882 strokes — 274 behind first-place Windermere Prep.
Junior Amber Mariano was the Falcons’ top performer, shooting 103 Wednesday and finishing at 202 to place 79th. Junior Taylor Rhoades was next (85th place, 220), followed by sophomore Samantha Dehner (86th, 230), sophomore Lauren Mariano (87th, 240) and Ashlyn Arrington (88th, 240).
Pasco County’s other participant, Bishop McLaughlin freshman Brooke Dalton, finished 78th in the 94-girl field. The only state qualifier in program history shot 92 Wednesday and carded 199 overall.
Class A boys: Saddlebrook Prep had its best performance since 2006 to finish sixth at Mission Inn in Howey-in-the-Hills.
The Spartans compiled a two-day score of 648 — eight strokes behind fifth-place Jacksonville Bolles and 43 behind champion Plantation American Heritage.
Freshman Ryoto Furuya led Saddlebrook with 8-over 80 to finish tied for 21st at 15 over — 10 strokes behind Planation American Heritage’s Jorge Garcia.
Sophomore Won Jun Lee was next for the Spartans at 16 over (tied for 24th), followed by sophomore Joe He (17 over, tied for 29th) and junior Tom Ng (24 over, tied for 54).
The North Suncoast’s only other participant, Fivay senior Nick Piro, improved 13 strokes from Tuesday with 87. He finished in 89th place with 187.
Class 2A boys: Mitchell senior Dylan Strout improved on a rough first day to compile a two-round total 161 and finish tied for 52nd place. He improved seven shots from Tuesday, carding 5-over 77 in warmer conditions.
St. Petersburg senior Jack Maguire became Pinellas County’s first individual champion since 1996 by firing 68. His 3-under 141 was good for a two-stroke victory over Plant senior Brad White.
