We're featuring some of our HomeTeam 100 players, including our No. 74 player, Admiral Farragut RB/DB Napoleon Maxwell:
Napoleon Maxwell has been part of Admiral Farragut’s rise since his freshman year. He was a key player in the Blue Jackets’ run to the 2011 Class 2A state final as both a running back and a defensive back. He stepped up again last season with 8 yards per carry and five touchdowns, three TDs as a receiver, and steady play on defense.
“For me, Napoleon was always kind of that Joker player,’’ said former coach Chris Miller, who is now at Seminole. “We could line him up at running back, wide receiver or wildcat sometimes. And then defensively he played a number of different positions. He can do so many different things.”
New coach Ryan Hearn also plans to use Maxwell all over the field, including safety.
For the past two seasons, Maxwell (6-2, 195) has shared carries with the likes of Rayshawn Jenkins, Todd Macon and Cortavious Givens. This season, Givens and Maxwell are sure to be the top carriers for AFA. Maxwell certainly has speed. He ran a 10.87 in the 100 meters at the state track meet in the spring.
He was one of the lone bright spots in an otherwise forgettable spring game. He scored a 33-yard fourth-quarter touchdown in a 35-6 loss to Berkeley Prep.
Maxwell has offers from Florida Atlantic, Virginia, Massachusetts and Georgia State. And USF, UCF and Miami have shown interest.
“I would be shocked if he didn’t have a Miami offer by the end of the season,’’ Miller said. “He’s definitely a blue-chip stallion.’’
