Former Pasco standout Jamie Byrd is set to resume his Division I football career next fall.
The former all-Sunshine Athletic Conference player of the year has orally committed to Arizona, he confirmed via Twitter.
Byrd, a 5-foot-11 safety, signed with TCU in 2011 and played in 12 games last fall as a redshirt freshman. He transferred to Iowa Western Community College in January because of coaching changes in Fort Worth.
By attending a junior college, the three-star recruit will not have to sit out a year for transferring and will have two remaining years of eligibility.
Byrd is ranked as the country’s No. 42 junior college prospect and No. 2 juco safety, according to 247Sports. Middle Tennessee State and Illinois were also recruiting Byrd out of junior college.
