Lanky Jesuit swingman Joey Galvis, MVP of the Class 5A state tournament, has accepted a scholarship offer from Division II Rollins in Winter Park, Tigers coach Neal Goldman announced Tuesday.
Galvis' decision means all five starters from the Tigers' state championship team will play at the next level. G Devin Harris (East Tennessee State), PG J.J. Weir (Rhodes College), SG Jack Fleming (Colgate) and F Travis Johnson (Cincinnati, for football) already have signed.
Noted for his freakish wingspan that made him a backcourt defensive force, Galvis (6-foot-1, 165 pounds) averaged 13.8 points, 2.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.0 blocks and a team-best four steals for the 31-1 Tigers.
He totaled 32 points and eight steals in a pair of state tournament games. In the 5A final, a 79-58 win against Plantation American Heritage, he had 16 points, four blocks, three steals and three assists.
