We're featuring some of our HomeTeam 100 players, including our No. 55 player, Largo WR Reggie Campbell:
Reggie Campbell is a receiver with game-changing abilities. He showed it in the opener last season when he hauled in two big catches, including the winning reception on the final play in regulation to beat Bradenton Southeast.
That play was the catalyst that helped the Packers go undefeated in the regular season. Campbell, who displays blazing speed, came up big in most of those games, finishing as the team leader in yards (523) and touchdown receptions (nine).
Campbell’s numbers might not improve significantly considering Largo’s offense is as deep at receiver as any team in the county with Raheem Harvey, Jonathan Crawford and Cordell Hudson also in the mix. But Campbell can come through in the clutch and should be one of the most dependable targets for new quarterback Donavan Hale.
“I think I had my best season last year, but I know I can do even more,” Campbell said. “I want to become an all-around athlete and the coaches are going to allow me to do more. I’ll line up in the backfield and play some as a defensive back. I want to do as much as I can.”
Campbell (5-10, 155) also will be counted on in the return game, especially with the graduation of Derrick Doss. Last year, Campbell averaged 43 yards per kickoff return.
“Reggie has a knack for coming up with the big play,” coach Rick Rodriguez said. “He’s really fast, and can come through when we need him. We expect him to keep doing that this year.”
