Former Dixie Hollins assistant coach Phil Garris is the new girls basketball coach at Dunedin.
Garris, 44, spent three years as an assistant at Dixie Hollins. Before that he was an assistant at the college level at William Woods University in Missouri and Christian Brothers University in Memphis.
"Dunedin is a small town; I can speak Dunedin,'' Garris said. "This community deserves better. We're not going to talk about the past. We're going to have a little burial service for the past four years. We're going to thank those that were involved and then we're going to bury it. Our motto now is 'looking forward.' That's why windshields are much bigger than rearview mirrors.''
Garris was last a head coach at Lake Placid High School in the early 2000s. He is the co-owner of Talent Quest Florida, which runs karaoke competitions. He takes over a program that has won six games in the past four years.
