Each week, our HomeTeam staffers will nominate male and female Hot Shot athletes from each of the counties we cover, then we turn the voting over to our readers. These nominations span Saturday, Aug. 24 through Friday, Aug. 30. The winners get a free T-shirt and bragging rights over every other school in the area. Read up on what made our nominees stand out, then vote until noon Tuesday (extra day because of the holiday).
Female nominees
Shyanne Dove, Mitchell golf: The sophomore fired one of the week’s best rounds — a 31 against Land O’Lakes — to lead the Mustangs to a 2-0 start.
Casey Houlton, St. Petersburg volleyball: The senior outside hitter had a good start to the season. In Tuesday’s opener against Clearwater she had nine kills and three blocks to help lead the Green Devils to a 3-1 win. She followed that up with 14 kills, five digs and three blocks in a 3-0 win over Northeast.
Alyssa Lamoureux, Northside Christian golf: In the first two matches of the season, Lamoureaux shot the low score in both. She had a nine-hole score of 37 at Westchase GC in Tampa on Tuesday against Tampa Prep and followed with a 39 on Thursday at Pasadena CC against St. Petersburg Catholic.
Sarah Morales, King volleyball: In only her second high school match, the Lions freshman tallied 10 kills in a five-game upset of Sickles — the biggest victory of fourth-year coach Cookie Mitchell’s tenure. In her first two prep matches, Morales totaled 12 kills and eight digs.
Grace Olsen, Wiregrass Ranch volleyball: The senior outside hitter averaged 10 kills and 4.5 assists in season-opening wins over Mitchell and rival Wesley Chapel. She also added 32 digs for the 2-0 Bulls.
Tyler Sroufe, Tampa Catholic volleyball: The versatile 5-9 sophomore had 15 kills, three blocks and three digs in TC’s four-game win against Seffner Christian. Two nights later, Sroufe tallied 12 kills in another four-game triumph against Calvary Christian.
Boys nominees
Isaiah McIntyre, Bloomingdale football: The sophomore quarterback had 193 total yards, including 16-yard touchdown in waning minutes of a 23-12 victory against Strawberry Crest.
Jamil Morris, Osceola football: The running back played a big part in Osceola’s comeback win over Seminole. He scored a 52-yard touchdown in the first quarter, then a 1-yarder in the fourth quarter. Morris had 23 carries for 185 yards, an average of 8 yards per carry.
Deiondre Porter, Jefferson football: The quarterback ran for nearly 200 yards and passed for three touchdowns in 41-14 rout of Alonso.
Mekhi Reynolds, Countryside football: The running back had 82 yards and 16 carries and a blocked a punt, which he recovered, to set up the Cougars’ only touchdown in a season-opening win over visiting Lakewood.
Christian Trinidad, Mitchell football: He rushed for 176 yards and three touchdowns on only 16 attempts and made the night’s biggest play. His touchdown with 22 seconds left was the game winner in the Mustangs’ 24-17 victory over Anclote.
Logan Wolfe, Sunlake football: He only carried the ball a handful of times, but he made two of his team’s biggest plays — touchdown rushes of 15 and 64 yards to fuel Sunlake’s 17-6 upset win over Pasco.
