Boys golf
It is early in the season, but it’s clear there are two teams worth watching. Countryside and St. Petersburg shot team scores of 153 for nine holes at Countryside Country Club.
Countryside freshman Ryan Hicks led all golfers with even-par 36. Teammate Donald Wasoff shot 37 and Jay Dixon added 38. St. Petersburg’s Blake Dyer, Daniel Weiss and Cameron Wolfe each shot 37.
Statement game
St. Petersburg is clearly a team to beat this season after a quality win over Palm Harbor University on Tuesday night. The Green Devils defeated a very good PHU team 22-25, 25-13, 17-25, 25-17, 15-6. St. Petersburg is 3-0, including wins over PHU and Clearwater. Next up is the Canterbury tournament this weekend at Clearwater Christian College. PHU is also in the tournament, with a rematch likely.
Dynamic duo
Clearwater beat Boca Ciega 88-61 in boys swimming thanks to a strong performance from Kobee and Kelbe Alsop, who combined to win four of the eight individual events. Kobee won the 200 individual medley (2:39) and 100 breaststroke (1:17.90) while Kelbe took first in the 100 freestyle (1:02.25) and 100 backstroke (1:18.09).
