When Demondre Lambert tore three ligaments in his knee on opening day of the 2012 season, Dixie Hollins coach Shannon Brooks said it was one of the worst injuries he had ever seen.
This spring, Brooks was discouraged by a doctor’s report. So much so that he said Lambert would probably never play football again.
Lambert, a senior, will prove a lot of people wrong Thursday when he suits up and takes the field in the Rebels' home game against Seminole. Brooks said he will ease Lambert into the game at linebacker or defensive end. Later in the season he may get some carries at running back.
“I’m really happy for him,’’ Brooks said. “He’s worked his butt off. During the summer, the reports I was getting from the doctor were not very optimistic. But he kept working. I really don’t know what to expect from him, but it’s nice just having him back on the field.’’
