CLEARWATER — Palm Harbor  University built off of its Week 2 offensive production by putting the ball in the air against Clearwater in a 38-7 rout Thursday night, strengthening a team that looked lackluster in the season opener against East Lake.

With the aid of senior receiver Dominic Bonelli, quarterback Tyler Kaminski led the aerial attack with three passing and a pair of rushing touchdowns.

“We looked sharp,” said Palm Harbor University coach Matt Lepain, adding that the offense is improving as the season progresses.

The ’Canes kept Clearwater’s defense, which struggled with coverage, on its toes.

Palm Harbor U.’s best play came on a 16-yard back-corner fade route in the third quarter as Bonelli hauled in his third touchdown of the night.

Clearwater, showing signs of an undisciplined offense and poor clock management with multiple delay-of-game penalties, put itself at a disadvantage throughout the first half.

The Tornadoes’ lone score came late in the fourth quarter on a rushing touchdown that spared them a shutout.
