TAMPA — Chamberlain running back Daishaun Roberts rushed for 151 yards on 19 carries and three touchdowns as the Chiefs (2-1, 2-0) remained undefeated in Class 6A, District 8 play with a 28-14 victory against Lennard (0-3, 0-2) Monday night.

The game was postponed from Thursday because of inclement weather.

“We played like we had the weekend off,” Chamberlain coach Cam Jones said. “We played sloppy. Luckily, we buckled down on defense and shut (Lennard) out in the second half.”

Roberts scored on runs of 50, 2 and 33 yards, the final one capping a 68-yard, six-play drive late in the third quarter to put the Chiefs in front for good.

Lennard starting quarterback Diontae Johnson (14-for-19, 143 yards, one touchdown) left the game with three minutes remaining with an injury.

“(Johnson) has got a high-ankle sprain, (and) it’s been about two weeks now,” Lennard coach Keith Chattin said. “We’re probably going to shut him down for a couple of weeks, get an X-ray and see how hurt he is.

“We’re trying to get our kids to play all the way through four quarters and see if we can win a game. We’re getting better. But we’ve just got to make sure we maintain it so we can finally get over the hump.”
