Lakewood guard Anthony Lawrence Jr. said he has decommitted from Central Florida and will open up his recruitment.

The decision comes less than a month after the 6-foot-7 junior announced that he planned to become a Knight.

“It’s nothing against UCF,” Lawrence Jr. said. “That’s still my No. 1 school. But I felt like I committed too early. I haven’t really been recruited yet and haven’t had a chance to take any visits, so I really had nothing to compare to UCF as far as making my decision.”

It is another setback for the Knights, which had two others from their 2015 class open up their recruitment this past month, the most noteworthy coming from Orlando Oak Ridge’s Alex Owens, a four-star prospect who is ranked as the 44th-best junior according to ESPN.

Lawrence Jr, who is rated a three-star recruit by ESPN, averaged 21 points eight rebounds and four steals last year. He has offers from Clemson, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Louisiana Tech, Miami and Texas A&M.

It didn’t take long Lawrence Jr’s recruitment to start heating up again. On Tuesday, he talked to coaches from Arkansas, Clemson, Miami and Murray State.

“I’ll take my time this time to schedule visits,” Lawrence Jr. said. “I probably won’t announce where I’m going until the fall of next year. I want to be sure I make the right decision.”
