Clearwater Central Catholic running back Diquan Walker committed to Holy Cross, a Division I-AA school that competes in the Patriot League.

Walker made his decision Monday night after visiting the campus over the weekend. He bypassed offers from two Division I schools, Ball State and Buffalo, to join the Crusaders. This is the first year Holy Cross has offered scholarships in football.

“At first, I thought about playing for a bigger school,” Walker said. “But I transferred from Tarpon Springs after my freshman year because I didn’t like being in a big school.

“I like the small-school environment like I have at CCC. That’s what really sold me on Holy Cross. It’s a nice, small campus where I’ll get to know the teachers and students more. I won’t be just another number.”

This year, Walker has rushed for 629 yards and six touchdowns to help the Marauders advance to the region final for the second straight season.

He is the third CCC player to make his college decision, joining linebacker Caanan Brown (Virginia) and defensive lineman Justus Reed (Florida).
