East Lake linebacker Carson Lydon was offered by the University of Central Florida on Saturday, Eagles coach Bob Hudson said in a text message.

The offer is the first for the junior linebacker, who moved from Releigh, North Carolina in part so he could gain more exposure playing in Florida.

Lydon said he heard from East Lake receiver Artavis Scott and former Eagle quarterback Pete DiNovo (now a freshman at UCF) that he was about to get an offer from the Knights. But it didn’t become official until Hudson told him the news.

“It’s exciting because it’s the first one,” Lydon said.

This season, Lydon has 108 tackles, five sacks and two interceptions. On Friday, he helped the East Lake (12-0) record their fifth shutout of the season with a 45-0 victory over Pinellas Park in the Class 7A region semifinals.

Lydon said he also has had interest from Boise State, Iowa State and Michigan.
