Each week, our HomeTeam staffers will nominate one male and one female Hot Shot athlete from each of the counties we cover, then we turn the voting over to our readers. These nominations span Saturday, Oct. 6 through Friday, Oct. 12. The winners get a free T-shirt and bragging rights over every other school in the area. Read up on what made our nominees stand out, then vote until noon Monday.
Female nominees
Hana Lee, Wesley Chapel golf: The junior battled cloudy skies and a soggy course to win the Sunshine Athletic Conference tournament with 4-over 74. That was good enough to earn a three-stroke victory.
Marina Levine, Largo cross country: At the Eagle Lake Invitational, the senior defended her title, winning in 19 minutes, 52 seconds. The time was a personal best and five seconds off the school record. Levine also helped the Packers win the team title.
Maddie Hess, Newsome swimming: The sophomore won two events (100-yard back, 100 free) at last weekend's 35th annual Florida Swimming Pool Association Invitational in Orlando against the state's elite. On Tuesday, she won both of those events and swam on two winning relay teams in win vs. Tampa Prep, then added more wins Wednesday at the Western Conference Federal Division meet.
Male nominees
Keshaun Dampier, Anclote football: The senior running back gave the Sharks a two-score lead with a 23-yard touchdown catch from QB John Forgione and ripped off an 85-yard score on third and 31 to help Anclote earn one of the biggest wins in school history — a 21-7 victory over Zephyrhills. They were also his first TDs of the season.
Tracy Johnson, Lakewood football: Against Lennard, the senior had a first half to remember, throwing for five touchdowns and converting on three two-point conversions to help the Spartans build a 58-0 halftime lead en route to a 65-0 victory. He completed 5-of-7 passes for 197 yards.
Jonathan Moore, Jefferson football: The senior had eight catches for 242 yards and four touchdowns in the 41-8 win over King on Friday night. Three of his touchdowns were 60-plus yards.
