A spotlight on the Times’ bay area players of the week.
Female Hot Shot
Kendall Catone, Holy Names
Sport: Soccer
Skinny: Catone, a freshman, has helped the Jaguars (9-0, 3-0) get off to their best start in school history with five shutouts and 68 saves through nine games. With Catone in goal, the Jaguars have allowed just four goals, and an AHN opponent hasn’t scored since the Jaguars beat Tampa Prep 3-1 on Nov. 12. This is a defensive improvement for AHN, which gave up 29 goals in 19 games last season.
Male Hot Shot
Carson Emery, Wesley Chapel
Sport: Basketball
Skinny: The senior has started his fourth varsity season strong, which was especially evident during last week’s 53-28 win over Anclote. He led both teams in points (18), 3-pointers (three) and free throws (3-of-4). Wildcats athletic director Mike Rogers said Emery embodies what it means to be a student-athlete. “Along with his athletic talent and leadership on the basketball court, he is dedicated to earning great grades in the classroom,” Rogers said.
