Former Pasco star Jamie Byrd is coming home.
The standout Iowa Western Community College defensive back has signed with USF, his school announced Wednesday morning.
Byrd, a hard-hitting, 5-foot-11, 190-pound safety is a three-star recruit. He signed with TCU in 2011 and played in 12 games as a redshirt freshman, but coaching changes led him to transfer to Iowa Western.
He totaled 53 tackles and two interceptions in 12 games this year for the junior college heavyweight Reivers. Byrd had originally committed to Arizona in August and was also recruited by Illinois and Middle Tennessee State, among others.
Byrd, a former conference player of the year at Pasco, will have two years of eligibility remaining.
His juco teammate and another Tampa Bay product also signed with a D-I program today.
Former Spoto WR Geronimo Allison announced that he signed with Illinois. Allison lead Iowa Western CC with 69 catches for 872 yards and eight touchdowns this fall. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound athlete is a three-star recruit who helped his team win a juco national title in 2012.
