Boca Ciega principal Michael Vigue has narrowed the candidates for the vacant head football coaching position down to three.
The finalists are Max Smith (former head coach at Dunedin, current graduate assistant at Toledo), Shane Wheeler (former head coach at now-defunct Si Tanka University in South Dakota and also a finalist for last year’s Gibbs opening) and Lance Martin (current head coach at Marathon High)
Vigue said he plans to hold face-to-face interviews with each candidate over the weekend before making a decision Tuesday.
“I want to make sure we have somebody in place sooner rather than later," Vigue said. “Parents want to know who the new coach is going to be."
There were more than 80 applicants for the head coaching position, which came open last month with the resignation of Antez Brinson. Vigue said he spent this week notifying other applicants that they were not finalists.
