Sunlake and Land O’Lakes advanced in Wednesday night’s Class 3A, District 8 boys soccer semifinals.
The Seahawks won 6-0 against Pasco, and Land O’Lakes defeated River Ridge 2-1. Sunlake was ahead 4-0 at halftime.
“It was a pretty comfortable game,” coach Sam Koleduk said. “Pasco is a solid team.”
No single player carried Sunlake to the victory, and several scored against the Pirates.
Remi Pimm, a sophomore, is leading the nation in scoring — according to MaxPreps — with 54 goals. He had one against Pasco, plus two assists. Cobi Shermo and Aaron Aucoin each had two goals, and Joe Ditroia had one.
The Gators were up 1-0 at the end of the first half against River Ridge and scored again about halfway through the second. River Ridge scored with just seconds remaining.
Glenn Johnson and Jordan Dollbaum scored for the Gators, who meet Sunlake in the final tonight at Gulf. Sunlake beat the Gators 2-1 and 3-0 in the regular season.
“They have a very strong team, and we’re going to do the very best we can, and play as hard as we can,” Land O’Lakes coach Mark Pearson said.
Koleduk said the Seahawks are familiar with their in-city rival’s style of play, and it’s nice to have two teams so close geographically progress.
“We both advance to regionals, regardless of the outcome,” Koleduk said. “But home-team advantage, when we advance, would be nice.”
