Countryside defensive back Mike Johnson committed to Iowa State during his official visit to the school over the weekend.
Johnson, rated a three-star prospect by 247Sports, picked the Cyclones in part because they were the first of his 21 offers.
"(Iowa State) always was at the top of the list, but no one ever knew," Johnson said. "You always keep your first offer a secret."
This past season, Johnson finished with 11 tackles, an interception and seven passes defended. He also had 417 yards rushing on offense.
Iowa State has done well in Pinellas County, landing recruits such as former Largo standout and current Tampa Bay Buccaneer Leonard Johnson and former Clearwater star Jeremiah George.
"Iowa State stayed with me the whole time," Johnson said. "If I had words for a recuit t would be that Iowa State cares and would do anything for you."
