Largo, in its search for a new football coach, whittled the list of more than 90 applicants down to six this week.
The finalists to replace Rick Rodriguez, who stepped down after 15 seasons, are Packer assistants Darryl Simmons and Marcus Paschal, Robinson offensive coordinator Craig Everhart, Marathon coach Lance Martin, Tarpon Springs assistant Mitch Disney and Pelham (Ga.) defensive coordinator Shane Wheeler.
Largo principal Brad Finkbiner said the applicants will be interviewed Thursday and Friday before the list is cut again. A second interview will be conducted next week with the goal to name a coach on Feb. 7, Finkbiner said.
"There was a lot of interest in the strong, and we have strong group of finalists," Finkbiner said. "That speaks volumes to how well the program has done and what people think of it."
Rodriguez guided the Packers to a county-record nine straight district titles and left with a 123-40 mark as coach.
